Sauna for Muscle Recovery
After a hard gym session, run or long week on your feet, recovery doesn’t always need to mean doing more. A sauna session gives your body time to slow down, relax and recover.
Heat can help promote circulation and relax tight, tired muscles, while the quiet time gives you a chance to switch off mentally as well. Infrared sauna provides a comfortable radiant heat, making it a popular addition to a regular post-training recovery routine.
When should you sauna after training?
After a workout, allow your heart rate to settle, rehydrate and cool down before using the sauna. If you’ve trained particularly hard or are dehydrated, give your body more time before adding further heat.
Sauna can be used an hour later,or on rest days depending on how you feel.
Avoid cold plunging straight after strength training
If building muscle and strength is your goal, avoid jumping straight into a cold plunge immediately after your gym workout.
Cold-water immersion immediately after resistance training may reduce some of the signalling involved in muscle adaptation and growth. Instead, separate your cold plunge from your strength session by several hours, or use contrast therapy on rest and recovery days.
Cold exposure can still be a valuable recovery tool — timing matters depending on your training goals.
